I was born on April 9th 1927 in St. Anton am Arlberg. I grew up and went to school there. I wasn't a good student but I passed all the grades. To be precise I never had to repeat a year. And - that's the way we grew up. At first we worked a little, then more and more. We went skiing whenever we could even though we didn't have proper equipment. As I wrote in the book we ski jumped down near the church, in the Strolzer Loch, that's where we jumped. And when we were fed up with that we went skiing on the other side the following day. The lift hadn't been built yet so we had to do everything on foot. -
